Marvel Art Gallery Pvt. Ltd. & Marvel Graphic Studio
Chaitya Dhanvi Shah, an Art Curator, Art Writer, Photographer and Art Entrepreneur, is instrumental in making Marvel Art Gallery a leading brand by taking the art business mainstream and reaching out to audiences through creative initiatives like innovative shows, coffee table books and offbeat collaborations.
He single handedly curated his debut show in 2007, with the works of masters and contemporary artists of India, at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai at the young age of 20. His next show was an exhibition of promising artists and masters of Gujarat at a national level. In 2012, he was awarded the ‘Emerging Entrepreneur’ by the SME’s Gujarat in Ahmedabad and the ‘Rastriya Ratna Udhyog Award’ in Mumbai for excellence in the field of Art.
With an aim to take art to the masses, he decided to create awareness through simplistic coffee table books wherein he wrote about the work of several artists like Bansi Khatri, Yashwant Shirwadkar and Bhanu Shah along with detailed interviews of Ratan Parimoo and Vrundavan Solanki. In 2012 and 2013 he wrote, photographed and edited 2 major publications on contemporary artists Harshil Patel and Ravindra Salve.
As a curator, Chaitya loves to collaborate with the artist at all stages of the art process and hence he travelled to 3 cities Jaisalmer, Varanasi and Florence with one of his artist and documented the artists' thoughts and presented his art in the forms of photographs and text. On similar lines, he also conducted extensive research on Greek and Miniature art in order to present detailed essays in a catalogue for a major show. His innovative catalogues are highly appreciated in India as well as abroad. Selected catalogues are now in the collection of the Library of Congress, Washington DC.
Chaitya has formal education in Business Administration from India and Art education from the prestigious Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London and Art Paris in Abu Dhabi. Drawing from this varied education and constant guidance from his father – Dhanvi Shah, Chaitya is successful in promoting art among the younger generations. He introduced the ‘Art for Youth’ initiative, which provides art on EMI, and the ‘The Art Exchange’ initiative, which allows easy trade of art.
As a curator, Chaitya is passionate about transforming the Indian contemporary art and working towards providing a platform to new and promising talents in the art industry. While not busy with art, he indulges in watching Bollywood masala movies and listening to Hindi songs. At present, he is researching on various aspects of Jainism to draw inspiration for something exciting.
